Fantastic Finished Basements

Renovating basements into usable space has become more common than ever. They can have any function from man-cave, to children’s play room, to an adult get-away.  There are a couple of ways you can decorate to ensure that your basement space can accommodate all of these functions without looking like a mash-up! First, make sure that the furniture you choose is simple, yet extremely durable. The last thing that you want in a bonus room is to be looking at grape-juice stains from your little ones while you are trying to relax or entertain! Another key to making your basement a multi-functional space is to have adequate storage for toys and other playthings. I like storage ottomans for this purpose because they are both functional as well as beautiful and efficient.

If you wish to create more definition between the space designated for your children and the space designated for adults, you may want to think about adding in sliding doors, or a partition. This is great if you’d rather just close off the mess left behind by kids!

Updating Your Powder Room

Updating your powder room is extremely fun and simple. Due to the uniquely small nature of powder rooms, you can add big effect with minimal time and money. A coat of paint can make a huge difference. Even if the rest of your house is painted classic neutrals, consider color with punch for your powder room. The small size gives you plenty of leeway to play with fun colors that you may not want on a larger scale in bigger rooms in your home.

Another simple fix is the hardware. Quality hardware can be relatively inexpensive and extremely simple to install. Updating the handles on drawers and vanities can make a tremendous difference when updating. And all you need is a screwdriver and a little elbow grease to install!

Another fun way to create a new look for your powder room is to establish a theme. Again, the unique size of this room creates the opportunity to play with motifs that you ordinarily would not want to use on a larger scale.  To create a fun theme use “found objects” creatively. For example if you choose a garden theme for your bathroom, use a pretty garden pail for a trash can, a little watering can to hold fresh or silk flowers, or a toy metal wheelbarrow as a soap dish.
